What is Forest Friendly Friday

Every year when the internet is flooded with Black Friday deals, we put the spotlight on an ecosystem in crisis and the people who are fighting to protect it.
Our brave partners at the Sumatran Orangutan Society (S.O.S.) are protecting and restoring the critically endangered Leuser Ecosystem in Indonesia. This globally important ecosystem is home to critically endangered species including the Sumatran orangutan and Sumatran tiger, and it’s being destroyed by demand for palm oil and wood pulp for clothing manufacturing.
Why Get Involved?
Did you know that viscose and rayon fabrics come from wood?
More than 150 million trees are logged every year and turned into cellulosic fibres – if placed end to end those trees would circle the earth 14 times. Logging for palm oil and rayon fabric are pushing Indonesia’s Rainforests to a point of no return. It’s time for sustainable fashion to play a role in protecting and re-generating the forests that have been lost.

Supporting Rainforest Guardians
Indonesia closed its national parks this year to keep Orangutans and humans safe from the COVID-19 virus. While this is seen as a good thing (the virus could cause major damage to orangutan populations), there are at least 800 forest guides in the Leuser Ecosystem who are now without income.
Our partners at S.O.S. are raising funds to provide sustainable livelihoods to these guides so that they can continue their important work protecting and educating tourists about the endangered forest.
Protecting Endangered Species
The Leuser Ecosystem in Sumatra is the last place on earth where the critically endangered Sumatran orangutans, tiger, rhinos and elephants co-exist in the wild. As their habitat is destroyed, we are at risk of losing all of these creatures forever.
We have the opportunity to reverse this trend and save these species. Our partners at S.O.S. are seizing that opportunity.
More Trees Please
Can a single tee make an impact?
The answer is YES! $10 from every purchase of our best-selling Trees Please Tee goes straight to S.O.S. to fund their re-forestation projects. Your purchase of a sustainable and ethically made tee means 2 trees are planted and maintained in the Leuser Ecosystem. These 2 trees will take root and re-build one of our planet’s most important ecosystems, the only home to critically endangered species including the Sumatran orangutan and Sumatran tiger. Each Trees Please Tee purchased means “boots and roots” on the ground where they’re needed most.
